I am very happy and feel fortunate to be working at Roadhouse. Because of the amount of transparency and camaraderie, I know what is happening and feel like I really belong here. I haven’t had a job where there was such a fluid relationship between the people on top and the rest of the teams which allows for a better work environment. Everyone here is treated really well; add cool and exciting projects to the mix, and I think this is what makes working at Roadhouse different from anywhere else.
If you have multiple skills you are good at and you are willing to learn, this will help you go a long way within your team. But the best advice is just be a good person and continue improving on your skills. You will be welcome here.
They say a company is more than a name, it’s the people who work in it. (I really don’t know who says it, but someone surely has). And the people who work at Roadhouse are smart, creative, fun folks. Sure, we develop super cool projects, but it’s the team-members you work with that make it enjoyable.
For those who want to apply, as that one shoe company says, just do it! (I am clearly not the person who gives applicable life advice).
There are three things that make Roadhouse different than anywhere else I have worked. First, due to the small agile teams, you have the opportunity to work on many aspects of programming for a game. You don’t get pigeonholed into just working on one piece of the puzzle. Second, the company really supports the concept of work/life balance. Yes, there are deadlines and times to put in some extra effort, but the culture is really about keeping people engaged and not “burning” out. Finally, Roadhouse has very flat reporting structure, everyone in the company is very accessible and everyone is empowered to make decisions and to bring forth ideas.
The best advice I can give is to bring an open mind and be willing to work on anything. Every new project will bring different challenges and being able to jump into anything and contribute is the best skill to have. Being willing and able to learn from the people around you is as important as having a strong technical background.
