The people, the studio culture, and the games we work on! One day you could be flying at top speed on Red Bull Air Race, while the next day you could be smashing the heads of Orks on Warhammer 40K: Carnage. Looking at it from a QA perspective, the job never ceases to be exciting! And it never hurts to be able to tell your friends, “I worked on that!”
Everyone here is awesome so YOU should be awesome too! Technical knowledge and skill are of the utmost importance (learn all the things!) but never forget that your personality must shine through. Sometimes the work can be stressful, as with any job, but being able to work through it with your team members and come out the other end with a smile is an amazing feeling. If you’re proud of the work you do, you know you’re in the right place!
The Roadhouse people are all really nice and friendly. As long as you have the passion and eagerness to learn, everyone is willing to teach you and help you to be successful in the industry. I feel I am learning and getting better every day. Also people care about each other not just like coworkers but more like family to each other.
Olive’s advice for job seekers: Make sure you have and can demonstrate your passion and love for making games. You should be ready and willing to learn a lot of new things. Be prepared to become part of this lovely family.
Roadhouse has a very collaborative atmosphere. Nothing is dismissed as so-and-so’s problem. Instead, people come together to help each other solve issues regardless of their current team or project. The supportive environment makes it easy to ask for and receive help, sometimes when you didn’t even know you needed it.
My advice is to think outside the box on your application. What experience do you have outside of your career that can have an impact on your at work performance? Do you lead a youth group? Run marathons? Play an instrument? Show how your personal successes will lead to professional ones.
