Technical Artist

Roadhouse Interactive is looking for an experienced, self-directed and talented Technical Artist to join our team. Expect to work on a wide range of iOS and Android games for tablets and phones; delivering creative, technical, and procedural solutions to ensure market-defining graphics quality while maintaining performance on a wide range of hardware. • Deliver market-defining graphics to our growing portfolio of successful mobile games while balancing performance and hardware needs across a range of mobile devices. Your main responsibility is to ensure that art assets are easily integrated into a game without compromising the creative vision or art direction, and not exceeding the technical or performance constraints of the target hardware
  • Provide technical art direction to in-house artists and Roadhouse outsource partners
  • Refine the management of art assets, pipelines and compression methods to maintain visual fidelity across a range of mobile platforms
  • Demonstrate excellent art skills across a number of genres and art styles
  • Create processes and prototypes to advance efficiencies in 3D art production and daily workflow
  • Work closely with Technical Leads, Art Leads and Producers to develop innovative solutions and incorporate new technology while keeping the visual quality intact from technical constraints
  • Work with the animation team to maintain and define new areas for improvement/optimizations in our existing animation pipeline
  • Perform special tasks as assigned, including prototyping technical solutions or completing production shots
  • Communicate risks and obstacles on pipeline matters to the Art and Game Directors and proactively working towards solutions for them
  • Actively accept and provide feedback on the technical aspects to the Art and the Production team at large
  • Utilize the latest technologies to create game-ready assets including environments and presentation elements, bringing characters to life using motion and emotion
  • Work with programmers to refine the art pipeline and seek to evolve/improve all processes
  • Meet project quotas, deadlines, milestones, as set by project leads, and the production department
  • Inspire, motivate, and coach others in best practices, processes, and procedures

  • 3+ years game industry experience, specifically in a 3D and/or Technical Artist role with a minimum of one shipped iOS and/or Android title
  • Strong knowledge of Unity3D and Unity IDE; specifically, NGUI, ShaderLab and fixed-function shaders written in cg/HLSL.
  • Xamarin is a bonus
  • Strong background in scripting, preferably in C#
  • Possess a strong sense of visual and spatial design
  • Knowledge of 3D art optimization techniques and emerging mobile games
  • Experienced in the use of art creation tools (Maya, 3DS Max, Adobe CC, Flash, Harmony)
  • Collaborate effectively with others in same discipline across feature groups and cross-discipline
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scrum and Kanban development processes
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership to tackle complex technical challenges
  • Dedicated, adaptable and accountable
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills across multiple audiences
  • Deliver and receive performance feedback in a mature manner
