Roadhouse Interactive is looking for an experienced, self-directed and talented Technical Artist to join our team. Expect to work on a wide range of iOS and Android games for tablets and phones; delivering creative, technical, and procedural solutions to ensure market-defining graphics quality while maintaining performance on a wide range of hardware. You should be very familiar with Unity3D, and it’s IDE.
Initially, you will be expected to provide technical art direction for a single, major project. The opportunity to lead technical art across our 100+ person studio would be available to the right person. You will test, measure and define best practices for the creation of mobile art at a studio level. The right candidate is not just a bridge between artists and programmers, but a solutions-oriented individual; collaborating with your team to deliver solutions to technical art challenges in an agile and rapid-development environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver market-defining graphics to our growing portfolio of successful mobile games while balancing performance and hardware needs across a range of mobile devices. Your main responsibility is to ensure that art assets are easily integrated into a game without compromising the creative vision or art direction, and not exceeding the technical or performance constraints of the target hardware
- Provide technical art direction to in-house artists and Roadhouse outsource partners
- Refine the management of art assets, pipelines and compression methods to maintain visual fidelity across a range of mobile platforms
- Demonstrate excellent art skills across a number of genres and art styles
- Create processes and prototypes to advance efficiencies in 3D art production and daily workflow
- Work closely with Technical Leads, Art Leads and Producers to develop innovative solutions and incorporate new technology while keeping the visual quality intact from technical constraints
- Work with the animation team to maintain and define new areas for improvement/optimizations in our existing animation pipeline
- Perform special tasks as assigned, including prototyping technical solutions or completing production shots
- Communicate risks and obstacles on pipeline matters to the Art and Game Directors and proactively working towards solutions for them
- Actively accept and provide feedback on the technical aspects to the Art and the Production team at large
- Utilize the latest technologies to create game-ready assets including environments and presentation elements, bringing characters to life using motion and emotion
- Work with programmers to refine the art pipeline and seek to evolve/improve all processes
- Meet project quotas, deadlines, milestones, as set by project leads, and the production department
- Inspire, motivate, and coach others in best practices, processes, and procedures
REQUIREMENTS
- 3+ years game industry experience, specifically in a 3D and/or Technical Artist role with a minimum of one shipped iOS and/or Android title
- Strong knowledge of Unity3D and Unity IDE; specifically, NGUI, ShaderLab and fixed-function shaders written in cg/HLSL.
- Xamarin is a bonus
- Strong background in scripting, preferably in C#
- Possess a strong sense of visual and spatial design
- Knowledge of 3D art optimization techniques and emerging mobile games
- Experienced in the use of art creation tools (Maya, 3DS Max, Adobe CC, Flash, Harmony)
- Collaborate effectively with others in same discipline across feature groups and cross-discipline
- Familiarity with Agile, Scrum and Kanban development processes
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and ownership to tackle complex technical challenges
- Dedicated, adaptable and accountable
- Highly organized with great attention to detail
- Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills across multiple audiences
- Deliver and receive performance feedback in a mature manner
